Angry

My last post, with a fairly popular Pop Culture adage, was to illustrate the frivolity of such "debates". I apologize for any confusion.

Yeah,we have beat this horse to death.Brought it back and cloned it and killed that one too.The bottom line is that I think when you reach "that level" that everbody wants to be at,everybody has there favorites. You can't really say that one drummer is better than another. One drummer might be able to do something that another can't do and viceversa. That doesn't make one better than the other.I know it sounds like i'm contradicting what I said in my other post, but I was just stating my opinion.I like Vinnie and Weckl and Novak and Steve Smith and Zach Danziger. Each of them have different styles. If every drummer was the same and everybody liked the same thing,it wouldn't be any fun.

Mark, you nailed it in that last post. In your posts you state your opinion that you like Vinnie better than Dave and why YOU think so. That is perfectly valid. You're not from the crowd that's making the blanket statement of X drummer is better than Y drummer. That's what bugs me.

To those who say "VC is best" or "DW is best", I respectully suggest: you're all wrong! They're BOTH the best. So is BR, DC, SG, SS, and all those who've poured their souls into the ART of drumming. Comparisons are legit, but touting one over the other is pointless. It's like saying "My opinion is right."

As far as comparing VC to DW, here's my take: DW appeals to those who like precision & complexity; VC to those who like speed, richness, cleanness. DW appeals to those who like finesse; VC to those who like groove. That doesn't mean DW's playing isn't fast, or rich, or clean, or that VC's isn't precise or complex. Each excels in his own way.

holy topic..... i just found this forum.

this is a discussion i had ten tears ago. there is no answer.... and even if there was what good would it do you if you figured it out?

stop comparing to greats and go practice your paradiddles.

you'll get more gigs and spend less time argueing about nothing..

To sum up: DW = Insane Control, VC = Controlled Insanity. Take your pick. :-)

I'm in complete agreement w/ all of ya's [Mark, Clint, Chris P, & Help] - ALL of u said it right...not because I'm a 'crowd pleaser' - but because you're ALL right!

Funny response by Derek to Clint's metaphorical[?] analogy! ["I don't like Elvis or the Beatles!"] - hilarious...that WAS meant to be funny, right Derek? ...not that it really matters, but it was still quite humorous]....

& Help's last post was a brilliant summation of the whole darned thing.
